Hello Sirenian Bay friends!
Contemplating a vacation to picture-perfect Belize but torn between where to stay? Perhaps you’ve started browsing vacation rentals, but you’re not convinced. All those beautiful buildings with stunning grounds and right-on-the-water locations – there must be a catch, right?
We understand. Tastes vary, and vacation rentals aren’t for everyone. We’ve thought long and hard, and we’ve come up with some reasons why staying in a vacation rental might not float your boat. A vacation rental may be a bad idea if…
You don’t like staying in a private home. How is someone’s lovingly tended, personally decorated dream home meant to compare with a cozy hotel room? There’s all that space, for one. And actually getting to choose your room just takes the fun and excitement out of travel. What’s booking accommodation without the thrill of that 50/50 chance of getting that sought-after parking lot view?
You prefer to find a laundromat to do your laundry. Having access to your own washer and dryer is just too close to home. Hauling bags of damp and muddy clothing around town trying to find the local Laundromat is part of what you signed up for! You’ll never get that Scout badge if you just put on a load of washing and go hang out in a hammock by your very own pool while you wait for it to be done.
You don’t like cooking…at all. You’re on vacation, so why would you want the run of a chef-quality kitchen or a backyard barbecue and grill? Vacation is all about rubbery hotel eggs and one-page menus of dishes that you could order back home. There’s definitely no reason to go shopping for local delights to cook – or to have the in-house caretaker rustle up something amazing just for you.
You think space is overrated. One of the best things about hotel rooms is that they’re so small that they encourage you to go out and see the sights.
When all you’ve got is a bed, half a wardrobe and a single Keurig cup to work with, you’ve got no choice but to explore. But when you’ve got multiple bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms and landscaped yard to work with, what’s the draw? You could just as easily spend your whole vacation relaxing by the pool with a book, and where’s the fun in that?
You like paying hotel markups. Vacations are all about indulgence, and what better way to splurge than on expensive hotel room service and drinks that are three times the price you’d pay anywhere else? Plus you get to support a large chain company, which we can all agree is better than supporting the little guy.
We get it – vacation rentals aren’t for everyone, and if all of the above apply to you we an definitely see the draw of traditional accommodation. But for the 99% of people who want their own digs with incredible amenities, personalized treatment and superb value for money? A vacation rental is the way to go!
