Your Spring Guide to an Amazing
Hello Sirenian Bay friends!
Spring is in the air, which means spring break is as well. If you’re looking for an un-BELIZEable tropical destination just a quick flight from the US, Belize is it. Best of all, spring is one of the best times of the year to visit.
Our rainy season doesn’t kick in until around the May-June mark, so there’s still plenty of sunshine on our picturesque horizon. Here are a few of our recommendations for spring breakers in Belize!
Off to the Cayes!
Just off the coast of mainland Belize are a series of stunning, outdoorsy islands dubbed the Cayes. The largest, Ambergris Caye, stretches all the way down the Belize Barrier Reef, making it an incredible destination for snorkeling, Scuba diving and water sports. It’s also home to San Pedro Town, a bustling village home to most of the island’s restaurants and bars.
A “hole” new world
You might have heard of Belize’s Great Blue Hole through Jacques Costeau’s world-renowned documentary. Part of the Lighthouse Reef, this massive sinkhole is an incredible spot for scuba divers. Keep an eye out for its incredible stalactite formations and the reef sharks that hang out in its perfectly blue waters.
Swimming with sharks
April and May are the best months to go diving with Gladden Spit’s whale sharks. These enormous spotted beauties reach up to 40 feet long and are a must-see. Book your dive trip for around the full moon for your best chance of getting up close and personal. For more creature-rich diving, try Shark Ray Alley in Hol Chan Marine Reserve, where nurse sharks and stingrays abound.
Spelunking and exploring
Belize’s Mayan history is all around us. Some 900 sites of notice dot the country, meaning that wherever you go you’ll be able to explore the legacy of this amazing culture. Head into the jungle for sites like Cahal Pech or visit the Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve for an exploration of the Mayan “underworld”. A cave tubing experience is an absolute must.
Laid-back beach vibes
For sunshine, relaxation and impeccable ocean views, there’s nowhere like Placencia. Our friendly little beach village combines artsy shops, delicious food and drink and a never-ending list of beachside activities. Explore the Boardwalk, grab a gelato at Tutti Frutti, and go for a paddle in the untouched water. We’re close enough to everything…and far away from it all, too! There’s nowhere better to spend that hard-earned spring break.
