It’s going to be utterly cray!
Well, hello Casa Sunsandsea friends!
Here’s a fun fact for you: lobsters fall in love and mate for life. So it’s pretty apt that lobsters are at the heart of this Placencia event you’re bound to fall in love with.
It’s June, which means it’s time for one of our biggest annual events. Signalling the beginning of lobster season, Lobsterfest brings locals and visitors from far and wide to our sunny shores.
This year marks the 19th Annual Lobsterfest, and we’re set to draw record a record sized risk (that’s what a group of lobsters is called, for you land lubbers).
You’ll see cuisine, arts and crafts and all sorts of events with our lobster friends as the star. There’ll be fishing, games and contests – and an amazing array of raffle prizes.
Lobsterfest began way back in 1998 as a way to give the local fishing economy a boost. It’s come a long way since its humble beginnings as a gathering between a few friends playing casual games and dining on low-key dishes. With each passing year, Lobsterfest has grown and grown: it’s become more lobstery and more festy!
Those low-key dishes from that first year have turned into a gastronomic contest between the town’s many wonderful eateries. You’ll get to try lobster fajitas, grilled lobster, and lobster stews and pies. If you need a break between snacks, you can stroll the famous boardwalk, which will be lined with vendors offering plenty of trinkets, activities and festivities for adults and kids alike.
Believe me when I say you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied between plates of lobster tails. Just some of the activities on offer this year include a Belikin beer drinking contest, a biggest lobster competition, a tug-of-war and a spicy hot wing eating contest. The winners of the Mr. and Ms. Physique contests will also be crowned, so bring your best beach bod!
Sounds indulgent, doesn’t it? Well, the locals do say that because lobster is so healthy you can argue that Lobsterfest is really a wellness retreat. It’s good for the body and soul. Who can dispute that logic?
So if you’re in the area from June 23-25, I highly recommend that you swing by to check out this one-of-a-kind event. And if you won’t be? Well, maybe it’s time for a last-minute change of plans! We promise it’ll be pretty “cray”!
Hope to see you there!
