Hello Sirenian Bay friends!

It might be low season here in the paradise of Placencia, but that doesn’t mean that we’re running low on things to do. After all, it’s hard to be bored when you’re surrounded by stunning beaches, sparkling seas and endless lush jungle waiting to be explored.

While the festivities are a little more muted than usual, and some of our shops slip into semi-holiday mode, there’s still plenty going on. Here are just a few ways you can entertain yourself in the quieter months.

Yoga at Yoga4Life

Need to release some tension or get those achy muscles moving the way they should? Yoga4Life offers a variety of different yoga types for students of all abilities. There are even circuit and cardio classes on offer if you want to work off some of that excellent local cuisine.

Ubafu Garifuna drumming lessons

Find your inner rhythm with a Garifuna drumming lesson. Available directly or through a Taste of Belize tour, these classes will take you through the basics of this traditional drumming style. Classes are at the beachfront Ubafu Drum School just north of Seine Bight Village.

Trivia at local bars

Love to test your knowledge? Placencia is home to several trivia nights, including Thursdays at the Pickled Parrot and Wednesdays at The Flying Pig. Enjoy some tropical drinks and a plate of freshly caught seafood along with your brain puzzlers.

SCUBA diving and snorkelling

The warm Caribbean waters are usually still and quiet during low season, making them ideal for diving enthusiasts. While March through June are considered the best months, largely due to your likelihood of spotting whale sharks, October and November are spawning season for the local grouper population.

Explore the Mayan Ruins

Head out to Xunantunich during the off season for a laid-back, relaxing visit free of other tourists. Nim Le Punit and the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave are also worth adding to your itinerary.

While some businesses may have reduced operating hours and tours won’t be running as frequently, off season in Belize is definitely worth your while. Prices are often discounted, and you’ll enjoy the laid-back vibes Belize is famous for.

Well, that’s it for now! Stay tuned for the next dispatch from sunny Placencia!
